Seconhand Serenade a.k.a John Vesely

John Vesely

"I like his songs,
the lyrics of his songs,
are so meaningful.
"

Biography

Nearly a year after the release of his debut album, Awake, Secondhand Serenade is back with his much-anticipated follow-up, A Twist In My Story. Rightfully titled, the album finds Secondhand Serenade; real name John Vesely, adding onto his signature raw vocals and guitar with the use of orchestration and a full band.

Carrying the momentum of a carefully crafted career, support from his label Glassnote Records, along with the adoration of millions of fans, A Twist In My Story is slated to be released on February 19th of 2008. The album finds John coming off of one of the most hectic years of his life after appearances on MTV, Yahoo! Music, AOL, Music Choice, in Rolling Stone, and more. Rigorous, national tours followed with other notable artists including the Plain White T’s, All American Rejects, and Hawthorne Heights before deciding to take some time to focus on recording. With the tracks completed a sold out show in support of Good Charlotte helped to ease John back into the life of a touring musician as he played to a crowd of over 1,000 people in Anaheim before the start of his own 24 date, headlining tour that Fall.

The album finds John collaborating with two industry heavyweight producers, Danny Lohner (Nine Inch Nails, Angels & Airwaves) and Butch Walker (Fall Out Boy, All American Rejects), as well as venturing into “a whole bunch of different styles of songs.” He knew that crafting these songs in a new environment was essential in terms of his growth as an artist, but Vesely remained mindful to never allow his surroundings change his artistry at it’s core.

“I kept a lot of those same things from the first album because the way I write didn’t change. It just became more complex. Some changes were necessary this time around because of the developments I’ve had as a person and as a performer,” Vesely remarked. “I just wanted to be creative and make the songs I wanted to make. I only used what I thought each song needed and that meant adding some new layers to the cake.”

The layers are evident right from the start of the album. Leading off with “Like A Knife”, the tone is immediately set for what is a heartfelt body of work complete with strings, signature harmonies, and lyrics conveyed with honest emotion. The Butch Walker produced ballad “Fall For You” follows, which is one of many tracks featuring John on the piano. The remaining tracks are of mixed sort, with tracks like “Stranger,” “Maybe,” and the up-tempo “Suppose” benefiting from the sounds of a full band, while others like “Why,” “Goodbye” and the album’s title track, all prove to be just as effective in their stripped down form.

Overall, Secondhand Serenade is out to please his supporters, whom he admits have helped him to reach this point in his life. He claims, “Nothing in my career would be possible without my fans backing me. They are the most important people in terms of any success I have or will ever have.” It is for this reason that he prides himself on keeping a personal connection with fans both on-line and at performances. Additionally, he looks to invite even more listeners into this community he has created.

A Twist In My Story is a new chapter for Secondhand Serenade, taking you through the highs and lows of love and life. John Vesely is a modern day storyteller following a path all to his own while putting a new twist on his timeless tale.

Avenged Sevenfold a.k.a A7X

M. Shadows - Vocal
Synyster Gates - Lead Guitar
Zacky Vengeance - Guitar
Johnny Christ - Bass
The Rev - Drums

A7X Bio

“They’re cheesy. They sing nowadays; they should scream like they used to. They’re sellouts.”

They fight. They fuck. They destroy hotel rooms.

They’re misunderstood.

They are warm. They are loyal. They are brave. They are authentic.

They are disciplined.

As musicians, the members of Avenged Sevenfold are definite virtuosos in a time when being accomplished artists seemingly means so little. They are inquisitive and never fully satisfied with their own work. They seek to grow and improve every day, regardless of the obstacles or costs involved.

They are a rock band. They are rock stars. They are Avenged Sevenfold.

Avenged Sevenfold, the album, is a self-produced effort. While the band shared co-production credit on 2005’s million-selling City Of Evil with Mudrock, this new album is solely their responsibility — and they’re primed to accept it.

But attaining such stature didn’t arrive in an overnight jaunt. To the contrary, Avenged Sevenfold had been an integral part of the independent, underground rock scene years before breaking through on commercial radio. In fact, the Orange County, California-based act launched its career several years ago (they were barely out of high school) with the release of its debut in July 2001 of Sounding The Seventh Trumpet.

Miles of van touring ensued, performing in tightly packed clubs, and sweating shoulder-to-shoulder on both national and international levels. Despite the truly D.I.Y. affair (which still found the fledgling act putting on an eye-opening, elaborate stage show), Avenged Sevenfold never offered anything less than a full-throttle set. The band released its second independent full-length in August 2003, Waking The Fallen, a couple years later, greatly expanding on its metal-based foundation and giving us a not-so-subtle nudge that something exciting was in the imminent forecast.

Our suspicions were confirmed a couple years later, with Avenged Sevenfold’s breakthrough 2005 Warner Bros. debut, City Of Evil, featuring the wildly popular single “Bat Country.” That was the turning point for the fearless, genre-bending quintet that, after years of clocking in on the independent level, had finally advanced towards a milestone they had been seeking throughout their careers.
A7X wrapped 18 months of relentless touring in October 2006 and immediately began writing Avenged Sevenfold. After the success of City Of Evil — where they proved they had truly captured the imagination of music fans of all shapes and sizes — they became the only band to headline Warped Tour and Ozzfest while simultaneously hitting Number One on MTV’s TRL. The natural question was whether the band would continue its creative odyssey or return to the formula that brought them such success on the last go-around. Thankfully, they continued their musical exploration without caving in to any outside influences.

For this self-titled release, the act returned to the garage at M. Shadows’ parents’ home where these high-school friends had penned every other song in their discography. The band sought to delve into genres and recording techniques they had discovered on the road. For instance, they wanted to incorporate the narrative lyrics and biting guitar tones they’d admired in country music, as well as the powerful bottom end of hip-hop they felt would only add to the power of their music and message.

“All those months on the bus we really weren’t finding new rock that was moving us,” says frontman M. Shadows. “Instead, we were listening to everything from Toby Keith to T.I., and finding elements we could incorporate into what we were doing to make our next record more interesting to us.”

In the studio, Avenged Sevenfold enlisted engineers Fred Archambault and Dave Schiffman (System Of A Down, Johnny Cash, Red Hot Chili Peppers), and the team went to work.

The resulting sound and rhythm of Avenged Sevenfold is, in a word, eclectic. Yet it’s still trademark A7X. “‘Scream’ has a groove we really wanted to inject into this record,” says guitarist Synyster Gates. “And on ‘Lost,’ you can hear the influence melodic bands like NOFX have always had on our band.”

A7X composed the string sections, including the individual instrument orchestration, with the assistance of Marc Mann and Steve Bartek from Oingo Boingo (and who currently orchestrate for Danny Elfman). With the soaring strings in “Afterlife,” the haunting and theatrical performance of “A Little Piece Of Heaven,” or the gentle vocals of a child in “Unbound,” the band’s creative and varied approach is surprising. Percussionist Lenny Castro brought a dynamic to “Brompton Cocktail,” and noted pedal steel and banjo player Greg Leisz added a country flair to the song “Dear God.” Yet as Gates adds, “it’s the dueling guitars, Shadows’ voice and the Rev’s brutality that make every one of the songs sound like Avenged Sevenfold.”

Lyrically, Shadows was striving for something more personal on the new album. “I feel we all experience a certain inner conflict, the push and pull between how we think we should act, or want to act, and the temptations and human instincts that we often blame when we don’t end up being the person we want to be.”

In fact, the album’s first single, “Almost Easy,” focuses on more similar temptations. “Afterlife” addresses the notion of “memento mori,” or the need to remember that death may intervene before we have reconciled differences with friends or loved ones.

These guys worked their asses off making Avenged Sevenfold (enlisting studio legend Andy Wallace to mix the record), literally sweating every detail with the same (if not stronger) conviction they had years earlier in trying to prove themselves to the masses. But it’s best you understand what was really going on during the three months these five best friends were holed up making Avenged Sevenfold.

They were having the time of their lives.

D-Side

(From Left) Derek, Shane, Ryan
Their album name Gravity

"This song is so nice,
try to listen to it,
sure you'll like it.
You also can listen at
my blog's playlist too."

D-Side - Never Know Lyrics

You, left with suitcase in hand, unplanned, you know
That you, should have left me a note, so I'd understand
Maybe I'm wrong, maybe I'm right
But it's at this point you should start to cry
Coz if you start to think about it you'd know

You left behind something so strong
But you never gave us time to belong
The feeling was right but it's come and gone
And all this time alone has left me thinking
That I, I don't need you
BUt you'll never know......

You, gave no forward address, I'm impressed, and I'm sure
That you, you left with your bitterness, I suggest, insecure
You should have stayed to give us more time
You should have said just what was on your mind
Coz if you'd stopped and thought about it you'd know

You left behind something so strong
But you never gave us time to belong
The feeling was right but it's come and gone
And all this time alone has left me thinking
That I, I don't need you

I guess if you'd have thought about it you'd know
I bet your lying in your bed on your own
Can't you see you're tired of all your complications
Trying to fight with your frustrations
All alone with your heart of stone

You left behind something so strong
But you never gave us time to belong
The feeling was right but it's come and gone
And all this time alone has left me thinking
That I, I don't need you

You left behind something so strong
But you never gave us time to belong
The feeling was right but it's come and gone
And all this time alone has left me thinking
That I, I don't need you
But you'll never know

You left with suitcase in hand, unplanned, you know

Finally...

The book which I just read finish
The Author Yann Martel

"I just read finish my novel,
so happy that I finally read finish,
It is a great novel & good stories,
what are you waiting for,
grab 1 of it and read guys/girls."

This is what story talking about :

The Facts Behind the Helsinki Roccamatios

The title story is the longest, about the first person narrator accompanying a young man Paul, who is dying of AIDs, through his last days. To help Paul cope with the endless days in hospital, the narrator decides that they will write a book together about a fictional family, the Roccamatios from Helsinki. Each chapter is to be based on one year of the last century, using a major world event that year as the base from which to build the story.

The actual story of the Roccamatios is never told. The historical facts for each year are listed, which makes this story good for increasing your general knowledge. Sandwiched between these facts is the description of a person dying from AIDs. This provides a fascinating juxtaposition of fact and fiction, events on a grand global scale contrasted with the minute details of the life of an individual, the triumph of world progress measured against the tragedy of one person’s death, the certainty of a past viewed from the present compared to the present fear of the unknown future.

I don’t know if Martel has first hand experience of watching a person die from AIDs or is simply a master at research and imagination, but the account is certainly believable, and very sad.

The Time I Heard the Private Donald J Rankin String Concerto with One Discordant Violin, by the American Composer John Morton

The incredibly long title of this story makes it deliciously eccentric even before you read the first sentence. It is about an unknown composer whose unknown composition is played badly by an unknown ensemble in an unknown decrepit theatre; yet when played, the piece hits those who hear it with the impact of an oncoming train, and fills the heart with both despairing sorrow and soaring delight.

The narrator later finds out that the man who wrote and performed that brilliant piece of music is a janitor. Although the story is purely fictional, it makes you wonder how many people there are out there who have genius which is never discovered by the world because of their circumstances and lack of opportunity.

Manners of Dying

A series of nine letters, written by a warden of a prison to the mother of a young man who was executed by hanging, provides a sobering glimpse into a world that few of us will ever see - how a person behaves in the last few hours before he goes to the gallows.

All nine letters are addressed to Mrs Barlow (possibly a play on the words “bars” and “gallows”) and refer to the young man as Kevin. I’m not sure if this is for simplicity so the author does not have to invent nine different mothers and sons, or if the novella is meant for the reader as an individual, suggesting that there are many ways to die and asking us to decide which letter we want to describe how we ourselves will behave in the face of fear and death.

The Vita Aeterna Mirror Company

This provides an interesting mental dialogue between a young man and his grandmother. Text on the left side of the page are the words of the grandmother, while text on the right side are the young man’s thoughts as she is speaking. Text which fills the whole horizontal space is the young man speaking from a later time as the narrator of the story.

Martel cleverly uses this layout to convey firstly, two persons’ simultaneous thinking processes and secondly, one person’s thoughts at different points in time. The genius is not in the story itself, but in the use of the spatial potential of a printed page.
